Managed by Stuart and Paula, New Leaf is a family-run business with many years of experience in the upholstery industry. We are an independent company, meaning that we can give each piece the care and attention that it deserves. It also means that the service that you receive is personal and unique to you. It might be an old saying, but we truly believe that we are “large enough to cope but small enough to care” – no matter how big or small your project is, we can help!

Traditional Upholstery

Traditional upholstery dates back centuries and is a craft that requires high quality workmanship and attention to detail. Over the years it has been refined to achieve more elegant and defined shapes which is done by securing the stuffing with twine ties and using edge rolls. Each piece is first assessed, sometimes stripped to the frame, and we will then begin to rebuild the layers of springs and stuffing for the area of the item that needs to be upholstered.

Modern Upholstery

Modern upholstery uses some traditional methods but typically uses more synthetic, man-made fibres. These usually include foam, polyester, and tack roll alongside traditional materials like hessian. We use either elasticised webbing or coiled spring units for the seating. Comfort is also of the utmost importance when it comes to seating, which is why it can be made from foam, hollow fibre, feather & fibre, or foam with a feather wrap. For that extra bit of luxury, feather and down would also make a great option. These materials can also offer more flexibility with design.

When it comes to design, let your creativity flow! We have transformed a Chaise Longue into a bespoke, multi-coloured harlequin centrepiece, and even upholstered a chair inspired by Celtic FC, with a name and number on the back – the possibilities are vast. As a family-run upholstery shop, New Leaf was founded on the values of skilled workmanship and customer service and we always strive to produce work to the highest of standards. New Leaf can offer re-covering, re-upholstery, made-to-measure curtains and blinds, scatter cushions, bespoke headboards and much more. With our range of services, we’re sure that we can help you with your upholstery needs!

SERVICES

At New Leaf, we can offer a variety of upholstery services, from standard re-covering to complete traditional re-upholstery. We can also create made-to-measure custom built frames. These can be based off of your own designs or an existing piece to suit your taste, style and the rest of your home décor.

We aim for the highest level of attention to detail, creating furniture that is perfect for you and your home. From ottomans & sofas to beloved family heirlooms, custom-made headboards and even campervans, we have experience with a range of projects. Various finishing touches can also be added to make your items unique to you, including various trims and piping. We will also re-cover buttons to use with deep buttoning techniques, ensuring that they match your refreshed furniture. Please see below for the main upholstery services that we offer.

We welcome commercial contracts as well, including furniture restoration for care homes.

Fabric

We carry a broad selection of designer fabrics but are happy to use your own material. From floral and patterned to stripey and plain, we want your furniture to look just how you want it to.

Great service, our old sofa, which had been pretty much ruined by our lovely old cat, was collected and delivered back a week or so later and looked brand new, so pleased.
